Billion Stickers Initiative

We constantly hear of Palestinian children being arrested and sometimes imprisoned for throwing stones at Israeli tanks and jeeps. Is there an alternative way to resist? The intention of the Billion Sticker initiative is to provide millions of gummed thumbnail logos, with a wordless No Weapon graphic, to be stuck on tanks, checkpoints and other ironmongery of oppression. Sympathisers with access to computers would be encouraged to print them on gummed or peal-off paper, perhaps 20 to a sheet. Click here for your own sheet to print.

Websites worldwide would incorporate a sheet of logos for free downloading, printing and photocopying. The initiative should soon “go viral” and become self-sustaining.
It would not be confined to any one language or region, or associated with any one political movement. Every continent has its own tragedy of resistance repressed by armed force. The Arab Spring has evoked images of unarmed protestors being shot in the street.
So no permanent organisation is envisaged. All that is initially needed is a board of trustees and a modest purse, to launch the initiative with a bang, and seed it with plenty of stickers. Trustees should include a human rights activist, a graphic designer, a linguist, a computer specialist/webmaster and an accountant or financial expert. Who better than Quakers to launch this initiative?
